Dike Reinforcement Neder Betuwe

 

Along the River Waal, between the Amsterdam Rhine Canal and Wolferen, approximately 20 kilometres of dike are being reinforced. This is a large scale project where flood safety, ground stability and smart monitoring come together.

 

 

Within this project, the existing dike is being raised and strengthened with a new layer of clay. To accurately monitor the settlement of the dike, settlement plates are installed at fixed measuring points. These measuring points consist of sets of three settlement plates: one on the Waal side, one on top of the dike and one on the hinterland side.

 

 

A DeltaCube is installed on each settlement plate. It continuously measures height changes and settlement of the dike, both in the existing subsoil and in the newly applied layer. The measurement data is automatically processed in DeltaNEXT, giving project teams realtime insight into progress, the current height in relation to NAP and possible deviations in settlement behaviour.

 

 

For the Dijkalliantie Neder Betuwe, DeltaIoT supplies 300 DeltaCube systems. In addition, the project organisation can flexibly rent extra DeltaCubes when more measuring points are temporarily required. DeltaIoT also provides full project support, both remotely and on site.

 

 

Continuous monitoring helps project managers make faster and better substantiated decisions. Insight into settlement behaviour allows the dike to be released at the right moment for the next project phase, such as the construction of the new road. This contributes to safe execution, efficient planning and reducing unnecessary long term disruption for the surrounding area.
